About Hollis Artspace
A creative home at 30 Ash Street since the 1970s
Our Story
Hollis Artspace is an art workshop, gallery, and teaching space located at 30 Ash Street in the heart of Hollis, New Hampshire. Founded in 2022 by artists Anna Birch and Chris Volpe, we carry forward a tradition of art and creativity that has thrived in this building for over fifty years.
A Rich History of Art
The building at 30 Ash Street has a long and storied connection to the arts. In the early 1970s, Arthur and Lucie Whitty opened a natural light photography studio here and ran their family business until 1999.
In the decade that followed, the space housed several local businesses before becoming home in 2011 to the beloved Wild Salamander Creative Arts Center — a community hub for art classes, workshops, and creative exploration that served Hollis through 2022.
The Wild Salamander Legacy
Wild Salamander was a cornerstone of the Hollis arts community, offering classes in painting, drawing, fiber arts, and more. When Anna and Chris took over the space, they were committed to honoring that legacy while bringing their own creative vision and energy.
Our Mission
At Hollis Artspace, we believe that art is for everyone. Our mission is to provide a welcoming, inspiring environment where people of all ages and skill levels can explore their creativity, develop their artistic skills, and connect with a vibrant community of fellow artists.
We offer a wide range of classes for youth and adults, including painting (oil, watercolor, acrylic), drawing, fiber arts, felting, printmaking, sewing, Zentangle, and writing. We also host workshops, summer camps, and maintain a gallery and gift shop featuring local artists.
